Introduction

Director, Toru ARAI
Our purpose is the clinical research of respiratory infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis, nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) diseass and fungal diseases. Kinki-chuo Chest Medical Center is designated as one of the two highly-specialized hospital for tuberculosis in Japan. The hospital has a ward for tuberculosis patients equipped with air conditioning for treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB) patients. We have a great deal of experience in treating intractable mycobacterial diseases including MDRTB and NTM diseases. We performed various bacteriological analysis including molecular typing for mycobacteria such as VNTR and PFGE, molecular identification for mycobacterial species, drug sensitivity testing. We make use of the results of these analysis for better treatment of the diseases.
